Where to Eat
This will be a major concern for anyone visiting Bansko – not because of a lack of eateries but because the choice is so great! We are told that there are over 100 places to eat and this must be rising because the new hotels have their own restaurants too.
The traditional restaurant is called a Mehana (in Bulgarian script it looks more like Mexaha). Perhaps the best English translation is ‘Tavern.’ These are often family owned, individual and imaginatively decorated. The size varies with some having attractive gardens for the summer. Some have live music and entertainment; barbecues and similar attractions abound. Like everywhere some are better than others and we have a folder in the apartment for guests to add their choices and comments.
A tip - Don't think a Mehana is closed because it has its door shut. Try the door and you might be pleasantly surprised.
There are also some lively night spots and night clubs.
